Letter to Donor

Dear Donor

I have wanted to write you for some time to thank you for a truly amazing gift you have given me and my family and what a difference it has made to my life.

My name is name here. I’m married with 3 grown up children and live in the ----------------- in the U.K.

In September 2012 my life suddenly changed after being diagnosed with Aplastic anemia – it was totally devastating and suddenly I was no longer able to work or play golf (a great passion of mine) and the slightest thing was utterly exhausting. Initially the doctors attempted to give me several treatments all of which were ineffective and it was decided the only real option left was to have a bone marrow transplant. I have 2 brothers and neither one was a suitable match for transplant so it was at that point we turned to the ---------------- to help search for a donor.

A year ago I went through the transplant procedure and have just complete my first year post transplant.

Your bone marrow is now functioning well within my body and has completely replaced my own bone marrow and I now have a normal immune system. A year of being ill and having lots of treatment has been tough at times but my focus now is to regain my fitness and get back to a “normal” life. I’ve even been able to hit a few gold balls on the driving range. Not quite able to go back to work yet, but that is my next goal.

The best thing this year will be walking my daughter down the aisle when she gets married in September. It will be an emotional day for me and my family and something that I never thought I would do 12 months ago.

How do I ever find the words adequate enough to tell you what you have done for me – I will forever be indebted to the sacrifice and wonderful gift you have given me. My whole family thank you. You have given me a second chance at life and I feel determined to make the most of every day.

Thank you, thank you, thank you – I hope done day to be able to say that in person.
